Sharky's Machine [4K UHD] [UK]

Burt Reynolds stars in and directs Sharky's Machine, an atmospheric 1981 neo-noir crime thriller adapted from William Diehl's 1978 novel. Reynolds plays Tom Sharky, an Atlanta narcotics cop whose unorthodox methods get him demoted to the vice squad. Working with a colorful team of fellow officers, Sharky begins investigating a high-end prostitution operation, only to uncover connections reaching into organized crime, political corruption and murder.

Blending a hard-edged police procedural with romance, character drama and explosive action, Sharky's Machine gave Reynolds one of the most substantial directing assignments of his career. The ensemble cast includes Rachel Ward, Vittorio Gassman, Brian Keith, Charles Durning and Henry Silva. Its climactic action also features a spectacular high fall performed by legendary stuntman Dar Robinson, an achievement that became one of the film's most memorable sequences.

This two-disc 4K Blu-ray edition features a new 4K scan and restoration from the original camera negative. Newly produced supplements include "Let's Get Di Pego," an interview with screenwriter Gerald Di Pego; "The Reluctant Stuntman," an interview with actor and stunt performer Dan Inosanto; "Get on the Bus," an interview with actor Robert Duncan McNeill; and "My Hero, Burt Reynolds," featuring filmmaker Adam Rifkin.

Additional archival material includes a newly scanned 2K theatrical trailer, teaser trailer, TV spot and a gallery of behind-the-scenes stills. Combining Reynolds' movie-star presence with his work behind the camera, Sharky's Machine remains a distinctive entry in the cycle of gritty American urban crime thrillers of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
