Clara has spent the past ten years living away from Liverpool in another part of the UK, working as a waitress and keeping her distance from the family and the life she left behind. When she learns that her father, Gerry, has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, she reluctantly returns home, reopening old wounds and bringing long-buried family tensions back to the surface.

Her sister Danika, however, has plans of her own. Tired of Clara's presence and determined to remove her from the picture, she turns to Rosie, an assassin with a reputation for getting results.

Meanwhile, Max and his gang of animal-mask-wearing criminals are attempting to pull off their own plans, setting in motion a chain of events that brings the film's collection of colourful characters crashing together.

Set and filmed in Liverpool, Semolina Pilchard combines crime, family dysfunction and dark comedy with an ensemble cast including Sarah-Louise Chadwick, Sophia Leanne Kelly, Alina Allison, Macaulay Cooper, Joe McGann, Louis Emerick, Gabriella Tavini and Jack Ryder, with appearances from Ricky Tomlinson and Tina Malone.

Music plays a major part in the film, with its soundtrack celebrating Merseyside talent and featuring music from Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), Black, Amsterdam, Ian McNabb, Dean Johnson and Alan Triggs, among others.
